Partay

Hanni and Greg threw Rob and I a party on the 27th. They were nice enough to schedule it so that Rob's mom could attend. The above picture shows the pregnant people at the party. Jules is due on Christmas and is also having a boy. Rachel is 3 months pregnant.
Hanni and Julie have been with me through it all. Especially Hanni, she has kept me in line through the years.
Rob had a few friends at the party. He was making jokes as always. In this shot he was a little concerned about the shady picture of Shel Silverstein on the back of the book.
Gramma Leslie helped me shop for maternity clothes before the party, as I had run out of pants that fit.

Gramma and Grandpa

Mom and Lanny came to visit. I look awful and pregnant now I think.
Joyce brought a bag full of goodies for the baby including the outfit Rob came home from the hospital in. Note the little blue number on Joyce's lap.
She also made the baby a quilt, all by hand, with free hand stitched animals in everysquare. Apparently she sewed until her fingers bled. I love it.
She also brought all of Rob's old matchbox cars. It was all he cared about despite the pile of baby clothes we received to his left.
At the end of their first evening here we drove out to Salt Air. Joyce has always wanted to see the lake up close. We warned her about that special smell, but we did get some great pictures at sunset.

Weekend with the Joneses and the Joneszees

Last month I spent most of the days "on-call." I was either at home tied to my pager, or working graveyard shifts from 10pm to 8am. It was a tough month. After staying up all night with crazy people and their ailments, the only thing I look forward to is a bite to eat and then my bed. Imagine my surprise when I came home last sunday morning to this....Rob you see cannot hold still. Being that is was a stormy day and he could not ride his bike, decided to put together modular closets.
I was therefore banished to the basement to sleep. But porter joined me because she gets scared of Rob's outbursts of frustration lets call them. He kills me..

Also last weekend we conveined at Josh and Rachee's house for dinner. A regular occurrence for the Jonezees. Conner - the 2 year old- calls us Uncle Rob and Aunt Z. He posed for a picture and then...
took a self portrait.
Josh and Rachel always cook for us in exchange for Rob's humor.

Onesies

I am slowly trying to educate/prepair my husband for the new addition. We are starting with basic baby vocab. The "Onesie" was the latest educational endeavor. It turns out that Wikipedia was able to help me out with this.

Onesie or onesize is American English for a bodysuit for infants designed to conceal a diaper when worn. It is also called a creeper, diaper shirt or snapsuit. The British English equivalent is babygro. The shirt extends past the waist and has snaps or buttons that allow it to be closed over the crotch, with enough extra room to accommodate a diaper. They are worn commonly by very small children, incontinent persons, and infantilists.

I am sure Wikipedia will come in handy over the next few months. I know I will need tha help. I tried to find a book for Rob upon his request on becoming a dad. I ordered one for myself as part of a package deal from amazon. Being cheap, and somewhat skeptical to the utility of the book I bough one valued at $1. Turns out the book was published the year I was born, 1975. It is rather entertaining though, most likely written by a feminist who recommends a beer nightly to settle your nerves.

Nesting

I decided to brave putting together the changing table from IKEA. Notice the number of pieces.
This is the after picture. Again, Porter is suspicious.

Tahoe 2007

Well, we just got back from Lake Tahoe. I was invited to speak at a conference about multiple sclerosis, as that is what my current research pertains too. I am actually doing research in anyone thought I was just going to slack this year. The above picture is from a cocktail cruise we went on 9/15 at dusk. The conference is sponsored by Oregon Health Sciences University with some help from TEVA neuroscience, a company responsible for medications for MS.
We were well taken care of. We stayed at a resort just outside of Squaw Valley.
We were able to golf 18 holes one day on one of the hardest courses known to man. The fairways were narrow. We would land in the rough and in the process of looking for our ball, would find 3 others. That is the only way we could keep playing really. Above is the best shot of the day. I tee'd off with a 7 wood from the white tees with the boys. I nailed 180 yards right onto the green, and made par. Not bad for a pregnant lady.
We also went on a guided fly fishing trip. There was no love from the fishies, but Rob and I learned a lot of useful techniques. I looked hot in waders.
This picture was taken just off the tram at the top of squaw valley, about 8000 feet. Our group had a private dinner that overlooked the resort and the lake.
Rob brought his road bike with us. He road all the way around the lake on 9/14 by himself. He was the star of the trip as far as ambitious outings, that is until we met up with Ed Viesturs. He went fly fishing with us then gave a keynote speech to our group. He is one of five people in history to climb all 14 peaks with summits above 8000 meters (26,000 feet)without oxygen. We are talking about Everest, K2, Anapurna etc. Look him up, he is a stud.

All of this for a 15 minute presentation on saturday. nice!

Stud

My husband is a pretty cool dude. He likes to entertain my girl friends with his crass sense of humor. I love him. I love this picture, he thinks he is a stud with all these beautiful women.

Night NIght.

I am back on the night shift. A lonely existence to say the least. It is just me a computer and itunes. It reminds me of when I worked in basement of the RMC all summer, singing my heart out to mix tapes that my highschool boyfriend Adam made for me. The trauma service is always thoroughly entertained when they come to talk to me.

I do see a lot of traumas at night, most related to ATV's and motorcycles.

The pregnancy boredom has set in, but I am very thankful to be healthy and have a healthy kicking baby.

CRIBS

I put the crib together yesterday. I think it was for the best. Rob get a little frustrated and scares the dog. Porter was a little suspicious of the crib, and does not like the mobile at all. She just sits in the room and stares. Do you like the wall color? The next feat will be to put together the changing table. One of my attendings gave me a nice green gingham rocking chair too. It is coming together.

Z baby's room

A Double entendre.Buddha belly from the front.
Buddha belly from the side...
And Buddha from above.

Rob also painted the baby's room today. I will post pictures of the progress. It should be rather entertaining to watch him put together all of the pieces of the IKEA crib and changing table.
